What Does a Web Designer Do?

Web design encompasses a variety of disciplines and skills in the creation and maintenance of sites on the internet. These fields are web development, web content, web marketing, and web server technologies. The various fields of web design cover web graphic design; web user interface design; creative web authoring; e-commerce; and technical web design. In addition, there are the ever-important web site layout design and information architecture.

There are professional web designers and amateur web designers. The amateur web designers typically have little or no training in web development or graphic designs. Their work will not be attractive nor will it hold any water with search engines. Even if they manage to get their web pages to appear on the first page of search results, most visitors will turn away from your web page within a few seconds and move on to the next site that best suits their needs. An experienced web designer has a much better chance of ensuring your web page is not only attractive, but also extremely useful to your potential visitors.

There are two main types of designers: those who create the graphics and those who create the actual visual layouts of the site. Graphics are created using specialised software and can be anything from simple lines and shapes, to 3D images and video sequences. These visualisations are then inserted into the website templates which already contain all the HTML code necessary for the site to be viewed. This is often done using Flash files, which are interactive visuals that can change the look and feel of the entire site. Web developers use HTML and JavaScript code to create these visualisations.

Some web designers choose to focus on creating images, while others focus on creating videos, and others still others may specialise in creating both types of visuals. A good web designer will work with an image agency to find out what the market research says when it comes to people buying things through images. This information is used to determine what visual styles work best in different situations and environments. A good web designer will then create images and videos that are specific to the business and the products and services they offer.

User research is the basis of any good website, and it is one of the most important things that web designers do. User research takes into account the needs of users, and it involves studying their browsing habits, what sites they visit most frequently, what makes them feel most comfortable while on the site and what problems they have to face when they are trying to navigate around it. Good web designers will collect data on this research. It can help to make the site redesigns more effective.

After the user research is complete, web designers will create the visual designs of the site. This typically includes a combination of image and video elements. The images can be 3D graphics or animations, and the video may be in full HD or in regular format. Web designers use programs such as Adobe Flash and Flex in combination with their visuals to provide a visually appealing website.

Once the web designer has created the visuals for the site, they must create the content that will support it. This content can include text, illustrations, photographs, audio files and videos. Web designers use a variety of methods to write content, and the method that the web designer uses will depend upon the types of media that they’re working with and the problem solving process that they are undertaking. For instance, a writer who is working on an article may use a form to record their ideas or a word processor to put the ideas into words. Web designers may also use special software to create graphics, which are called layouts.

Once the web designer has created the visual elements, they must layout them in a way that is appealing to the end user. Many times this means having to use a problem solving process to figure out how to make the visual presentation work and fit the information together. A problem solving process is part of every successful web designer‘s daily job. One of the things that a web designer does is perform market research to determine what is selling and why.
